Power kiting is harnessing the wind using a kite to pull you forward.  The beauty of power kiting is it can be combined with almost any recreational pursuit, giving that sport a new spin.  Alternatively, you can see power kiting as having lots of variety in the ways you can do it.  Power kiting is ideal is areas with a lot of flat land or areas with large lakes.

However, being able to power kite depends a lot on having a lot of space to move around in and the wind speed.  Without sufficient wind speed you will hardly move.  With too much your trip will become very dangerous, possibly deadly.  A power kite has a specific range of speed in which it can be used.  A power kiter with multiple kites can take advantage of a greater range of wind speeds, and have better control over the challenge level.

Keep in mind that wind speed is not constant.  The wind speed can change unpredictably leading to dangerous wind gusts that will have you airborne and out of control.

Scudding

Scudding is power kiting without any other device -- just your feet and the kite.  Think of it as waterskiing on a beach.  Scudding is an excellent way to learn power kiting because the speed you get pulled is less.  Scudding is best on a large uncroweded sandy beach.  A sandy beach is ideal because you can slid a bit unlike solid ground which may pound your legs and feet too much when you make jumps..
